“Lost in Highways & Need Help ?” - Find Your Exact Location in 1 Min

Problem :- It happened many times to us where we have lost or stopped in the middle of the National or State highways due to Vehicle broke down, Puncture, Accidents and many more reasons. But the problem is how to tell others your exact location in the highway where you need help ( may be Ambulance, police, Friend, Mechanic or Relative) ?

Answer :- (Case:-1) For National Highways

Generally the Highways are maintained by NHAI (National Highway Authority of INDIA). As per there NHAI guidelines you can find Milestones at every Kilometer distance at the edge of the road. Picture-1 is a sample. If you are stuck at near the Milestone it’s easy to tell at what Kilometer distance you are in a highway.

But what if you are stuck far from the kilometer stone ? Remember there is another way where you can find your exact location. (See picture no 2 & 3).

In most of the National Highways, at the edge of the Center of the Road Exact Milestone are painted in black with Yellow background. (Picture-2, Photo taken from NHAI - 65, Pune-Solapur Highway). Here 59+100 means in Pune to solapur Highway you are 59 KM & 100 Meters away from Pune). Picture -3 gives you a better look at it. These markings you can find in every 50 Meters distance in NHAI. So whenever you are lost just go close to the marking (But careful) & see the exact location, People will know how far you are.

(Case:-2) For State Highways

But in most of the State Highways the Milestones (Mostly in Square size as shown in Picture-4) are either in the center of the road or at the edge of the road, where each milestone (White color) will be 200 Mtrs away from each other. Here along the face of the highway the Kilometer location will be written and at the edge, the Meter distance is mentioned.
